Bone Grafting
Gone are the days when a tooth was extracted and the jaw left to heal on it’s own. With the introduction of implants in dentistry,
proper management of the extraction socket is an integral part of the treatment plan.
Research has shown that 25% of the bone collapses soon after a tooth is removed and 40-60% after 3 years.
With the introduction of bone substitutes, we are now able to preserve and/or add width and height to the jaw bone for future implant
placement, for cosmetic reasons or in cases where more bone would be beneficial for implant retention.
What causes bone loss?
There are many reasons why bone collapses:
•
Recent extractions
•
Gum Disease
•
Trauma
•
Severe infections
•
Cyst removal
•
Root fractures
What is bone substitute made of?
The source of the bone substitute could be human, animal or synthetic. It is chemically and physically treated to remove living cell
and sterilized to comply and exceed the strict standards of governmental requirements. It comprises mostly the mineral calcium
compound.
We Use Geislitch Biomaterials.
